1802 Sadhu à Pashupatinath - Katmandou

            En Inde ou au Népal, le sâdhu ou « saint homme » est celui qui a renoncé à la société pour suivre une voie de pénitence, de mortification et atteindre l’illumination. Ils souhaitent modifier leur karma en rejetant l’attachement au monde et échapper au cycle des renaissances.
En tant que renonçants, ils coupent tout lien avec leur famille, ne possèdent rien ou peu de choses, pratiquent la mendicité et vivent de dons. La nourriture, source de plaisir, doit être limitée au minimium vital. Ils s'habillent d'une tunique, de couleur safran pour les shivaïtes, jaune ou blanche pour les vishnouites.
