Saying Goodbye

            Frodo, our beloved Pup-Pup. 
March 8, 2001 - September 8, 2018. A very good run. 

He was healthy in mind and body right up to the end. About two weeks ago he developed some fluid in his lungs. We treated him under the guidance of our veterinarian, his coughing ceased but shortly after he stopped eating, essentially shutting himself down. He remained stoic, and beautiful and calm right to the end and we helped him slip away in the warm sunshine of a crisp and glorious Autumn afternoon here in interior Alaska. 

Yesterday (Sept. 9) I placed him up the hill with so many others and much of his family that have passed away over the years. His passing is truly the end of an era, he being the last of the line we raised from pups, from Toaster and Biscuit and before them his granddogs, Weasel and Feebo. So many good and honest dogs.

The photo above was taken just 12 days prior to his passing. You can see how vibrant and beautiful he was; I'm so completely sad to see him go, never again to burrow my face into his lush coat, rub those soft glorious ears or look into those knowing and grateful eyes. As I am about to embark on a new and very different adventure and phase of my life.
