Chenonceau Chateau Hallway Loire France HDR

The Shot

This picture was taken in Chenonceau Chateau which is famous for its enclosed bridge going across the River Cher which is a tributary of the Loire. The inside of this bridge is shown in this picture. The present Chateau was built between 1515 and 1521. King Henry II gave the Chateau as a gift to his mistress Diane de Poitiers who had the bridge part of the Chateau built. It is reputed that Chateau was saved from destruction during the French revolution because it formed an essential bridge over the River

Taken with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 Wide Angle Zoom at 10mm. Taken with a Tripod which is allowed but the Chateau is so busy it is usually only practical at a quiet time, early or late. This was taken at about 5.00 pm when I spotted the Hallway was empty and quickly got some shots in.

3 raw images 2EV spacing. Opened in Photoshop first and each image noise reduced with Noiseware Pro and saved as tiffs.

General adjustments in levels and curves to enhance. Layer mask used to exclude some highlight areas

Vibrance adjustment layer increased 57 points.

Hue/Saturation reds layer was used to reduce saturation in the ceiling a little for a more natural look.

The original image -2EV was copied in as a new layer and a black layer mask then used to exclude it. A white brush was then used to bring it back in at partial opacity to increase detail through the window and tone down highlights on the wall
