381mm Vickers Armstrong Coastal Artillery

This is my latest gun, a 15” 381mm/45 Vickers-Armstrong Model 1926 coastal gun.
These guns were installed on large turrets with a single gun each; I might build the turret later.
The photo behind the gun was taken by me during the Military Exercise Relâmpago (Thunder), organized by my former Anti-Aircraft Regiment in 2010.

About the weapon:
This weapon was originally intended for the Brazilian battleship “Riachuelo”, a 10-gun version of the Queen Elizabeth class battleships. However, the ship was cancelled in 1914. Then, between 1929 and 1935, Spain purchased a total of eighteen of these guns for use as coastal artillery. I don’t know if any of these weapons were ever used during the Spanish Civil War.
A total of four guns still exist in 2005, with three of them in working condition. These emplacements were equipped with radar, infrared and laser range-finders for fire control. On 24 September 2008, the sole remaining large caliber naval weapon in working condition in the world was fired for the last time.
Thus ended the era of large-caliber coastal guns.

I have already seen three of them. Two at the Island of Menorca (a wonderful place to spent the summer) and one at the north of Spain.

Off course, the photo lacks perspective but I didn’t wanted to show the weapon just like that on the garden of my home.
