Bandon Beach

            Bandon Beach for sunrise was the plan… Having never been here before, the seastacks were everything I’d hoped they’d be but we didn’t get the sunrise light we’d hoped for. After a morning of hunting and shooting, just before we called it quits, eagle-eye Miles spotted these flowers from a distance. Having never seen calla lilies myself, I decided to climb up to scope it out. I trudged up the muddy hillside through that insanely-spiked yellow brush to these monster-sized, chest-high flowers. I never knew calla lilies grew in Oregon—especially on the beach like this. Being that it was well after sunrise, thinking the "right conditions” had passed and with the sun breaking over the hillside, I took around 20 handheld shots, covering all angles. Had to capture the scene in 3 or 4 shot pano sequences to fit it all in as I was just inches from those flowers. Later, I was able to stitch together 3 of those shots. Turns out I ended up liking the comp much more than I expected. Didn't notice the "Wizard Hat" seastack dead center between the two golden towers. Wish I was able to stay for sunset on this one for perhaps some better light on the overall scene, but am happy with what I came away with given the time I shot it.
