A Twist of Lemon

            Selective color and simplicity - a combination of things that caught my eye as I peered around the room though an 85mm lens. I was in a barroom booth by myself in a familiar place where everybody knew my name and were used to a weird, old photographer and paid me no mind. After all, I paid my tab, caused no problems and was relatively harmless. 

Half my photographic life is spent on the streets and in the sporting world but in my downtime, I often quietly scan the world around me through a long lens, looking for isolated little artistic things that others may not see as they go about their daily lives. These things themselves may not always be actual things but may be just the way something looks against a dark background. I play private little games in these private moments, challenging myself to create a simple, artistic rendition of something I alone am seeing. My usual rule: One subject and one background. Period. An exercise in looking. An exercise in seeing.

I challenge you too. Not to do battle, but to hone your seeing skills by looking at the world around you, though a photographic lens. Do a lot of looking but just a little shooting. Find yourself a, artistic, simple view that you have picked out of a bustling scene and show it to the world. Look what I saw. Like it?
