The Time Being - a photo on Flickriver

The Time Being

            Came across this winter tableau the other day quite by accident. It was one of those moments where the light, shadow, color, or in this case the glint of reflected sunlight was just enough to catch my attention from the corner of my eye. I was struck by the delicacy of the tiny icicles, and the odd curve they had developed as the branch sagged under the increasing weight. But most of all the dramatic shadow that was cast on the wall behind the ice. The ice put me in mind of the leaves that will follow in a couple of months. Above all was fleeting nature of the scene. Everything was held in perfect balance as I approached. There was nothing to do but recognize the moment and whip out my camera. I had time to shoot only a couple of frames before the sun was blotted out by a wall of clouds. In that instant, the shadow disappeared along with the sparkle in the ice and the defined texture in the wall. Essentially the entire moment ended right before my eyes. The feelings generated by all of this long outlasted the brief moment in which they occurred.
