BR steam locos no. 42058 & no. 44954 double heading @ Edinburgh Princes St. (the Caley Station) - mid 1965

            An old photograph of British Railways (BR) locomotives nos. 42058 and 44954 double heading a train at Edinburgh Princes Street station (aka 'The Caley Station' which closed in Sep 1965).

The image is in a locomotive snapshot album, unfortunately it has no photographer name or date, other photos around it were taken mid 1965. By the photo is annotated "Tank no 42058 & 4-6-0 no 44954 at The Caley Station".

42058 was a '4P class' 2-6-4T tank engine built at the Derby Works and new to BR in Nov 1950. It was withdrawn from service in Aug 1966 and scrapped in the December.

44954 was a '5MT class - Black Five' 4-6-0 engine built at the Horwich Works and new to London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) in Apr 1946 carrying no. 4954. In 1948 the railways were nationalised, becoming British Railways (BR), the engine being renumbered as 44954 in the November. It was withdrawn from service in Sep 1966 and scrapped the following January.
