Hooded Merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus)

Columbia Children's Arboretum, NE Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon (March 15th, 2020). 3a. Suburban arboretum and park.

First-spring male transitioning to adult plumage. Just starting the transition, the only adult male features showing so far being the black bill, the bright yellow eye, a patch of reddish on the flanks and a faint indication of the white face stripe.
