Weavers Needle

            Last week, Jean (my wife) and I hiked up Peralta Canyon.  Ultimately we made it to that lone pine tree on the right side of the frame.  To go any further would mean walking off a cliff which is detrimental to your health.  The hike was 6 miles (9.7km) round trip and we climbed 1508 feet (~460m) elevation over the first half of the hike.  The prominent upside-down funnel in this photo is called Weaver's Needle.  I've read a few theories of how it was formed, but basically the area had once been covered in volcanic tuff and has eroded over time leaving this unique formation.  The whole hike is really quite beautiful and worth the effort in my opinion.
