A Faint Aurora Borealis - a photo on Flickriver

            I happened to be up in Western Washington this weekend when there was a lot of activity in the night sky. I didn’t know about it until I was on the airplane, reading my Washington friends’ Facebook posts. Seeing the Northern Lights from Washington state is extremely rare. I remember seeing them once as a child. I was not able to get out with my camera Friday night when the skies lit up with color. But on Saturday I drove 90 minutes east of Seattle to Snoqualmie Pass and Keechelus Lake to escape the city lights in hopes of seeing them.

Unfortunately, there was only one brief 5-minute period about 90 minutes after sunset where there was a little activity. After that, we didn’t see any added color to the night skies.
