Cora Lynn Falls # 3 - a photo on Flickriver

            This is a 2006 photo of the Cora Lynn Falls near Marysville in the Yarra Ranges National Park in Victoria, Australia.

It is a drop of about 20 to 25 feet (6 to 8 metres) from the foreground down to the level of the creek which exits the scene at the top left hand corner.
The falls drop away steeply in the middle of this photo and disappear over the edge and out of sight, dropping in numerous steps until it reaches the level of the creek.

The foreground has beautiful mother of pearl like rocks with golden and rust coloured veins with blues, blacks and copper/bronze colours - quite extraordinary.

When I returned to this spot three years later all this colour had been covered over by silt and moss and I could see no trace of what can be seen in this photo.  And another visit after recent fires had passed through this area revealed a waterfall that was very degraded as the protective overhead canopy had been destroyed by the fire allowing the harsh sunlight to burn away the moss and some exposed ferns.

I am fortunate to have this photo as I have seen no other photograph that shows the colours of these rocks.
