Setting Sun on a Wetland Marsh - a photo on Flickriver

            Winter is a beautiful time of year in California's central San Joaquin Valley: the grasses are green, the seasonal wetlands are full of water and teeming with birdlife, and the sun sets early at the end of crisp, bright days.  It's the perfect time of year to pay a visit to Merced National Wildlife Refuge.  

In the winter, Merced NWR is home to tens of thousands of Snow and Ross' geese and upwards of 20,000 Sandhill cranes roosting in the wetland marshes.  The birds of the refuge, seen in this photograph, accent the sunset, particularly around the southeast section of the refuge, where the road has views across the water to the west.
