A closer view of my second Interflug Il-18 captured on film at LHR. DM-STL was sadly lost in a fatal crash at Luanda just three years later. When I took this photo, I had just discovered what was to become my favourite vantage point - the top floor of Car Park 2 - replacing my original haunt which was the Roof Terrace of the Queen's Building. I was still on the old Instamatic camera though. Too much grain to get any closer!

DM-STL c/n 186009402 Ilyushin Il-18D was delivered new to the airline in September 1966. The aircraft was converted to cargo configuration around 1974, and was lost in an accident in 1979 - more details [in German] here: www.interflug.biz/DM-STL.htm
