YR-TPF Tarom Tupolev Tu-154B makes an impressive departure from London Heathrow

Soviet aviation memories from a collection of some 80 slides of Soviet-built aircraft that I've had scanned from my archives. Hope they will provide some enjoyment and nostalgia from a bygone age.

The Eastern European pilots were often quite adventurous in retracting of the undercarriage - hardly off the runway! Typical Zenith 'lighting effects' in the shot - my earliest Zenit E was particularly prone to these 😅

TAROM was unique in the fact that it was the only European airline that operated both Western and Soviet aircraft in their fleet. The airline operated Boeing 707s and BAC 1-11s alongside Ilyushin Il-62s and Tupolev 154s.

YR-TPF c/n 77A239 - Tupolev Tu-154B was delivered new to TAROM Romania in Nov 1977 and flew with the airline until 1995 - the airline gradually phased in the Tu-154s in the 1970s to augment the regular BAC1-11s into Heathrow. The airline was unusual in using both Western and Soviet aircraft - 707s as well as the 1-11s, and Il-62s as well as the 154s.
