Bingen, Hafenpark, Einhörner und Widder von Liesel Metten (Unicorn and Rams)

            2008 wurden die Grünanlagen am Binger Rheinufer komplett umgestaltet und sind heute mit ihren Cafés , Restaurants und Freiluftausstellungen ein beliebtes und attraktives Naherholungsgebiet.

Schon vor den Römern existierte wegen der verkehrsgünstigen Lage an der Mündung der Nahe in den Rhein eine keltische Siedlung. Die Römer bauten die Siedlung, die sie Bingium nannten, mit einem Kastell aus und errichteten eine Holzbrücke über die Nahe. im 5. Jh. wurde die Stadt fränkisches Königsgut und ging 983 durch die Veroneser Schenkung von Otto II. an den Erzbischof Willigis von Mainz., der ein Stück naheaufwärts die heute noch existente steinerne Drususbrücke errichten liess. Es folgte eine wechselvolle Geschichte, während der Bingen zeitweise vom Département Donnersberg und vom Grossherzogtum Hessen-Darmstadt vereinnahmt wurde.  Heute gehört Bingen zum Bundesland Rheinland-Pfalz.
