Uitkijktoren van binnen, de trap - a photo on Flickriver

            In het Weusthagpark langs de A1 in Hengelo staat een kelkvormige uitkijktoren van 22 meter.
De ronde toren bestaat uit een beperkt aantal elementen: een spiltrap met bordessen die bevestigd is aan een kelkvormige koker van cortenstaal.
Met de uitvoering in cortenstaal  wordt verwezen naar de identiteit van Hengelo als metaalstad.
De zelfdragende spiltrap met 95 treden, de bordessen en de hekwerken zijn vervaardigd van verzinkt staal en zijn verankerd aan de grondplaat en met kniksteunen verbonden aan de buitenhuid. De buitenzijde van de toren bestaat uit 16 stuks dubbelgekromde platen.
Het uitgesneden bladpatroon in de buitenschil zorgt voor licht en lucht in de toren en biedt de klimmende bezoeker voortdurend zicht op het omringende landschap. Dankzij geavanceerde berekeningen is het mogelijk geworden de schaal dragend uit te voeren en te optimaliseren tot een flinterdunne schil met een dikte van 10 mm. Dit is in verhouding drie keer dunner dan een eierschaal.
In the Weusthag Park along the A1 in Hengelo you find a cup-shaped tower of 22 meters.
The round tower is composed of a limited number of elements: a spiral staircase with landings which is attached to a cup-shaped sleeve of Corten steel.
The implementation of Corten steel refers to the identity of Hengelo metal town.
The self-supporting spiral staircase stairs with 95 landings and railings are made of galvanized steel and anchored to the base plate and articulated brackets attached to the outer skin. The exterior of the tower consists of 16 double-curved plates.
The cut leaf pattern in the outer shell provides light and air into the tower and climbing visitor provides continuous view of the surrounding landscape. Thanks to advanced calculations it has become possible to carry out the scale-bearing and to optimize to a very thin skin with a thickness of 10 mm. This is in proportion three times thinner than an eggshell.
