Beach Waves and Sandpiper - a photo on Flickriver

            I spent 30 minutes with this sweet bird the other night, watching it scurry about on the beach and feed on the wave-washed shore.

I believe it is a Dunlin, one of many Sandpipers species that are currently migrating northward. The light was very low and I was lucky that the handheld 1/15th shutter speed got it passably sharp. 

They look like monster waves crashing against the shore here, but don't be fooled-- it's all perspective, and that's how it appears when your belly is laying on the beach and one-foot waves are producing a little froth :)
