Buff-Tip Moth (Phalera bucephala) - a photo on Flickriver

When resting, the adults of this species bear a remarkable resemblance to a broken twig of silver birch.

Well distributed in the UK, they can be quite common, especially in the south.

The adult usually fly in June and July, preferring mixed woodland.
