Piercing Through (www.jamesbrew.com)

The cloak of Manannan is a mythical shroud of mist that would be thrown over the Isle of Man to shroud the island from its enemies in times of trouble. The cloak would roll in from the sea over the land, covering all from prying eyes, keeping the island safe from unwanted visitors. This legend seems especially pertinent to the times we currently live in. In my experience June tends to be a common month to experience this natural phenomenon at its absolute best and this year has been no exception, especially over the last week.

This image was captured on the west coast of the island near Jurby at low tide, with a wall of dense sea mist blanketing most of the northern plain of the island. The mist was only around 100ft deep which allowed the setting sun to pierce through and bathe the beach in a beautiful, diffused orange glow. This ethereal looking light only lasted for a few minutes before the fog overpowered the setting sun throwing the beach into relative darkness. One of those absolutely magical & fleeting moments which I almost certainly would have missed without the motivating force of landscape photography 🙌
