Benzie to Leelanau Lake Michigan Vista, #1

Spring has sprung and the greenery is beginning!

Looking at the lower peninsula of Michigan like a hand, as we do, you’re seeing the corner between your little finger and your ring finger, or between Point Betsie and Sleeping Bear Point. That is, about two thirds of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore!

From the hills above the west end of Crystal Lake, this is looking north over Lake Michigan along the northern edge of Benzie County and the western edge of southern Leelanau County, Michigan.

Some notable points in this shot are:
* West Platte Bay, Platte River Point, East Platte Bay
* Empire Bluffs
* The "Empire Valley" with South and North Bar Lakes
* The bluffs at the Sleeping Bear Dunes
* North and South Manitou Island

This is three shots only loosely merged together, all taken with the smaller hiking camera. I hope to go back with a tripod and better camera.

View as large as possible, of course. As you might guess, it’s even more impressive in person, partially because this is a wide angle shot, demagnifying the view.
