Sutro Baths

            Sutro Baths, San Francisco, CA. 

When the Sutro baths facility was opened in 1896 it was the largest indoor swimming pool in the world. The building burned down in 1966 and now all that remains are the pools that you see here in the foreground. The facility had 7 different swimming pools, 6 of which were salt water. Just beyond the walls of the swimming pool are the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. This is a particularly dangerous place to stand during a storm! The long exposure in this shot makes the water look calm but the surf here is actually quite powerful. Later, I will post a shot of the rocks and waves as seen while standing on the far edge of the pool.
