Swirls of Beauty (6322) - a photo on Flickriver

            This small (2 in / 5 cm) former home of some sea creature is striking in the details that can be seen in its design. I've started to collect different sea shells and the closer I look the more they open up my imagination.  

This shell was several shades of brown, but I wanted to show it in way that focuses the eye towards the center of the swirl created on the side.  The shell was photographed on a simple white hand towel sitting on a table in my home, which took away from the complexity of the shell itself.  To put it more into it's "natural" setting I took the liberty of adding a bit of water texture.  The shell was originally shot as a series of 6 images, then stacked in Photo Shop.  I probably could have more simply closed the aperture down a bit but I had planned it as a more detailed image, before changing my mind in post-production.
