            Plaza Santa Maria del Camino “Plaza del Grano”, León, Castilla y León, España.

La plaza del Grano es una plaza situada en pleno casco antiguo de la ciudad de León (España). Aunque popularmente se la conoce como plaza del Grano, su nombre oficial es el de plaza de Santa María del Camino, al estar situada tras la iglesia homónima. Cuenta con un empedrado característico del León medieval.

Su nombre actual se debe a los mercados en los que se vendía grano y otros productos del campo que tenían lugar aquí. 

La plaza se encuentra en la zona sur del barrio húmedo, rodeada por la plaza de Don Gutierre y las calles de Carbajalas al norte, de Juan II y de Fernández Cardóniga al oeste y de los Herreros y el Escurial al sur, limitando al este con un bloque de viviendas junto a las murallas.

De estas calles, nacen de la plaza o desembocan en ella las calles de Juan II, de las Carbajalas, así como otros tres callejones. 

La plaza es de planta irregular y se encuentra parcialmente porticada ya que, aunque en origen la totalidad de la plaza se encontraba porticada, el paso de los años ha hecho que los viejos inmuebles porticados hayan sido sustituidos por otros sin soportales.

El centro de la plaza se corona con una fuente con dos niños que representa la confluencia en la ciudad de los ríos Bernesga y Torío. La fuente está compuesta por un pedestal en el que se eleva una columna con base ática y capitel con hojas de acanto y espadaña y en lo alto dos escudos de la ciudad. Los niños están unidos a la columna, teniendo bajo sus brazos cruzados por la espalda una máscara de león que vierte agua en un cuenco.

Junto a esta escultura se encuentra una segunda, esta vez una cruz de piedra de base cuadrada en la que los cofrades de Santa María "in sábato" le cantaban la Salve. Esta cruz era así mismo la picota de la ciudad donde según la tradición se apareció la Virgen un 9 de febrero. 

The Plaza del Grano is a square located in the heart of the old town of the city of León (Spain). Although it is popularly known as Plaza del Grano, its official name is Plaza de Santa María del Camino, as it is located behind the church of the same name. It has a characteristic paving of the medieval lion.

Its current name is due to the markets in which grain and other products of the field were sold that took place here.

The square is located in the southern part of the humid neighborhood, surrounded by Don Gutierre Square and Carbajalas streets to the north, Juan II and Fernández Cardóniga streets to the west and Los Herreros and Escurial to the south, limiting to the east with a block of flats next to the walls.

From these streets, the streets of Juan II, de las Carbajalas, as well as three other alleys, start from the square or lead into it.

The square has an irregular plan and is partially arcaded since, although originally the entire square was arcaded, the passage of time has meant that the old arcaded buildings have been replaced by others without arcades.

The center of the square is crowned with a fountain with two children that represents the confluence in the city of the Bernesga and Torío rivers. The fountain is made up of a pedestal on which rises a column with an Attic base and a capital with acanthus leaves and belfry and at the top two shields of the city. The children are attached to the column, having under their arms crossed behind their backs a mask of a lion that pours water into a bowl.

Next to this sculpture there is a second one, this time a stone cross with a square base in which the confreres of Santa María "on Saturday" sang the Salve to him. This cross was also the pillory of the city where according to tradition the Virgin appeared on February 9.
