My Son at the Boundary, Freeport Community Library, Freeport, Maine

            My son, who is 28, is waiting at the COVID boundary (note the orange tape on the floor).  After an early shut down, this library reopened slowly.  To avoid COVID transmission, patrons were not allowed into the Children's Area.  This was especially hard for my son because he has autism and the Children's Area is his favorite section of the library.

I explained to him that a lot of people were getting sick, and to avoid getting sick, everybody has to wear a mask, and sometimes we can't go in places like we used to.  He started saying, "The sickness. It's a rule," meaning that when there's a big sickness, we gotta follow the rules so we don't get sick too.  So proud of him!

Fortunately, after a few months, the library opened the Children's Area to patrons with a limited capacity.
