Relaxed boating, Mauritius - a photo on Flickriver

A re-edit of Martin's photo of his lovely lady "F" sailing on holiday back in 1977.

The original print had faded quite badly before he scanned it recently so I have tried to restore the natural colours. The angle it was taken made it look like the boat was keeling over and she might roll off into the sea, so I thought it would look more relaxed re-framed to make it the right way up.

Edit details: The main problem was fading of the red pigment giving an overall yellow colour to her skin. Also the scan was rather dark with compression of the shadow details making them less visible. These were adjusted using the "curves" tool in PS but it resulted in some harsh irregular textures to appear, probably scan artefacts so I then applied some smoothing with restoration of the grain pattern to avoid the "plastic" look. There was also a bright reflectin on her knee which I cloned out. Rotating the frame by about 45° (to make the water ripples horizontal) brought the boat back to upright but I then had to fill in the corners by moving some sea from the left to right and cloning the decking bottom left.

It actually takes longer to describe than to do!
