Coigue (Nothofagus dombeyi) - Parque Nacional Hornopiren (Patagonia - Chile)

            El Coihue (mapudungun: koywe) es una especie de Roble sudamericano que crece extensamente en los bosques del centro sur  y de la Patagonia Chilena. De hermoso ramaje llega a crecer por sobre los 40 mts de altura.

El Parque Nacional Hornopirén forma parte de la Reserva de la Biósfera Bosques Templados Lluviosos de Los Andes Australes, se ubica 120 kms al sur de Puerto Montt en los primeros tramos de la Carretera Austral junto al poblado del mismo nombre.

El area es de una belleza escenica extraordinaria las altas y empinadas cumbres nevadas se juntan con el mar dando origen a bellos fiordos. 

Entre los mayores atractivos del parque se encuentra el Volcan Yates, el Volcan Hornopiren, los Saltos del Rio Blanco, lagos de alta montaña  y mas de 22.000 ha de  glaciares. La mayores cumbres se ubican en la cuenca del Rio Blanco y en la Cordillera del Cerro Inexplorado.

The Coihue (Mapudungun: koywe) is a species of American oak that grows widely in the forests of central and southern Chilean Patagonia. With beautiful foliage it can be reach over 40 meters high.

Hornopirén National Park is part of the Biosphere Reserve temperate rainforests of Southern Andes, is located 120 kms south of Puerto Montt in the first sections of the Southern Highway near the town of the same name.

The area is of extraordinary scenic beauty and steep high snowy peaks meet the sea giving rise to beautiful fjords.

Among the highlights of the park is the Volcan Yates, Hornopiren Volcano, the Falls of Rio Blanco, high mountain lakes and more than 22,000 ha of glaciers. The highest mountains are located in the White River basin and in the Cordillera del Cerro Inexplorado.
