Living in a Jungle... Young Bamboo soars above our Bamboo Front Gate

Many of you have asked where I live that there are so many exotic plants, butterflies, bees and Lubbers on my morning walk. Well, the truth is I live in a Jungle... a Jungle I imagined, planted and tend daily.

I love soaring Bamboos and mounds of Bromeliads. And Heliconias gone mad in reds, golds and oranges. The house was virtually plant-less when I moved in. We were in the midst of a devastating drought. Neighbors were throwing away "dead plants" every day so I dragged them home knowing when the rains returned, they would sprout and flower.

One day I was dragging a huge, sticky Bromeliad which was pricking my legs badly, when a friendly voice shouted, "Out walking your plant, eh?" We both laughed. Everyone around here knows that I walk early mornings with my dog Honey and my camera around my neck or ready and aimed. And I continue to take home orphans... plants, cats and dogs.

For me, home means gardening and tending birds and fish. Our Koi Pond meanders around the house and its sounds fill our rooms in winter when the windows are all open.
