雛鷗喊食 ( 小燕鷗 ) - a photo on Flickriver

            小燕鷗 Little Tern【學名：Sterna albifrons】鷗形目 / 鷗科。別名：白額燕鷗、丁香鳥、海鳦仔(台語)。此為小燕鷗雛鳥 ( nestling )。

小燕鷗廣佈於亞洲、歐洲、非洲、澳洲。臺灣普遍屬於夏候鳥，但經研究仍有少許停留在臺灣，也是臺灣唯一停留繁殖的鷗科鳥類。

小燕鷗主要出現在河口、海岸、沼澤、魚塭、濕地等環境，常單獨或群體行動，飛行覓食，主要以小魚和蝦為主食，也會吃昆蟲。

觀察雛鳥時，大多會躲藏在附近的遮蔽物，等雙親輪流獵取食物回來時，雛鳥則會從掩蔽物跑出來，然後大口張嘴等親鳥餵食，模樣可說是相當可愛，吃完後又會立刻趴下躲藏著。

由於小燕鷗的棲地與人類活動的範圍常交叉到，所以在拍攝時，常見些遊客會在沙地玩車差點碾壓到，甚至連野狗、外勞都是威脅對象之一。也由於雛鳥不具飛行能力，所以大多只能盡量利用地形躲藏著，常常是九死一生。
