1956 - Mannheim - O 6 - Club Tusculum - under the Tanz Café Karl Theodor -

            That place had a long history from the 50s to the 70s. Upstairs there was the Tanz Café Karl Theodor - short : Ca Ka The ! Downstairs - the cellar was named in 56 TUSCULUM. Both places was for young black US soldiers. Café Karl Theodor has the same name til the early 70s. Then the new name was - Der Große Pferdestall (what a name ! The Great Horse Coral). In the early 60s the soldiers were gone and the Mannheim Students took place. First still under the name Tusculum, then it was named LAS CASAS and in 1965 PRO CONTRA. In early 1964 I was still a rocker (18) and a permanent guest at the Café Karl Theodor. The boys and girls of the student club Pro Contra had to walk through our Café, because the entrance of their club lies behind our dancefloor - that means nearly every weekend there was a fight. In 1966 the owner made a new entrance for the club downstairs. But then I had my own club in Mannheim at the watertower - ECHO 63, also a student and highscool club. Pics of that you see also on my side here. -------------------------------------------------------Dieser Ort hatte eine lange Geschichte von den 50er bis in die 70er Jahre. Im Obergeschoss befand sich das Tanz Café Karl Theodor – kurz: Ca Ka The! Unten – der Keller wurde 1956 TUSCULUM benannt. Beide Orte waren für junge schwarze US-Soldaten. Bis Anfang der 70er Jahre trug das Café Karl Theodor den gleichen Namen. Dann lautete der neue Name: Der Große Pferdestall. Anfang der 60er Jahre waren die Soldaten weg und es kamen die Mannheimer Studenten. Zunächst noch unter dem Namen Tusculum, dann LAS CASAS und 1965 PRO CONTRA. Anfang 1964 war ich noch Rocker (18) und Dauergast im Café Karl Theodor. Die Jungs und Mädels  (die Exies) des Studentenclubs Pro Contra mussten durch unser Café laufen, der Eingang ihres Clubs lag hinter unserer Tanzfläche – das bedeutet, dass es hier fast jedes Wochenende zu einer Schlägerei kam. Im Jahr 1966 baute der Eigentümer im Erdgeschoss einen neuen Eingang für den Club ein (außen im Hof). Aber dann hatte ich meinen eigenen Club in Mannheim am Wasserturm – ECHO 63, ebenfalls ein Schüler & Studenten-Club. Inhaber Jürgen Nebgen. Bilder davon seht ihr auch hier auf meiner Seite.
