A female ruby-throated hummingbird photographed at Mizell Farms Hummingbird and Butterfly Festival yesterday near Folsom, Louisiana.

This was their 11th Annual Festival and there were many hummingbirds and lots of butterflies! Many people had a great time and got to watch the biologists collect data for future studies about the birds. They are caught in electronically operated feeder traps completely unharmed. The birds are ID'd, weighed, measured, aged and banded. They also place a small white dot of paint on top of their head so if caught in the trap again the are release to keep from stressing them anymore.
