On the second day of my Markha Valley trek in Hemis Natiional Park, we left our camp at Jingchan (3,390 m, 11,122 ft.) and climbed southward some 5.5 km (3.4 mi.) along the Jingchan Chu (Jingchan River) to Rumbak (3,870 m, 12,697 ft.) where we ate lunch. From Rumbak we continued south-southwestward some 2 km (1.2 mi.) to the confluence of the Jingchan Chu and its western tributary and then followed the tributary west-southwestward 1 km (0.6 mi.) to Yurutse (4,180 m, 13,714 ft.). From Yurutse we climbed west-northwestward along the tributary 1.5 km (0.9 mi.) to the Ganda La Base Camp (4,360 m, 14,304 ft.) where we camped for the night. The day's weather was unsettled and included intermittent rain and a short period of hail. The sky began clearing after we arrived at the Ganda La Base Camp where I took this shot of an unnamed peak (c. 5,240 m, 17,192 ft.) some 5 km (3.1 mi.) to the southeast.
