Cascais Portugal 21st May 2019

            An Iberian gauge electric multiple unit commuter train departs from Cascais, next stop Monte Estoril ( Mont'Stril), en route to Lisbon's Cais de Sodré terminal. The line hugs the north bank of the beautiful River Tagus estuary for most of the way and here runs just behind the promenade and beach.

The line was opened in 1889 and the running direction is on the left, opposite to the driving direction on the roads - a throw back to the British involvement in building many of the 19th century railways.
