LISPB Burntisland Fife Scotland 7th August 1974

            The tall Up signal post, with its lower repeater Starter arm, is clearly off for a Fife Circle line diesel multiple unit at Burntisland station.

The current North British Railway station, which bypasses the site of the original station, dates from 1890 when the Forth Rail Bridge and associated connecting lines were opened to provide a direct route across the Forth estuary to Edinburgh Waverley. 

The former Burntisland Shipbuilding Company yard dominates the background. The last ship was launched here in 1969 but Robb-Caledon at this time were busy building modules for North Sea oil platforms. After nationalisation in 1977, sell off in 1990 & management buy-out in 2001 the operator BiFab went into administration in 2020.
