Il grattacielo Woolworth, con sessanta piani, è uno dei grattacieli più vecchi e più famosi di New York. A cent'anni dalla sua costruzione è ancora uno dei cinquanta edifici più alti degli Stati Uniti e uno dei venti edifici più alti di New York.
Costruito in stile neogotico dall'architetto Cass Gilbert, cui nel 1910 fu commissionata da Frank Woolworth la progettazione della nuova sede aziendale a Broadway, tra Park Place e Barclay Street a Lower Manhattan, davanti alla City Hall, fu inaugurato il 24 aprile 1913.

A 870 piedi di altezza, è la più alta torre residenziale nell'emisfero occidentale e di una singolare aggiunta alla iconico skyline di Manhattan. Per il suo primo incarico residenziale a New York, maestro architetto Frank Gehry ha reinterpretato il linguaggio stilistico della Manhattan classia con le onde ondulate di acciaio inossidabile che riflettono la luce che cambia, trasformando l'aspetto del palazzo per tutta la giornata.
