Torre di Belém - Lisbona - Portogallo

             La torre di Betlemme o, più correntemente, torre di Belém (in portoghese: torre de Belém) o "torre di San Vincenzo" patrono di Lisbona, è una torre fortificata situata nella freguesia di Santa Maria de Belém, nel comune di Lisbona, in Portogallo. Si tratta di un patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO (insieme al vicino Monastero dei Jerónimos), simbolo e memoria del ruolo importante che il Portogallo giocò nell'era delle grandi esplorazioni. La Torre fu commissionata dal re Giovanni II come parte di un sistema di difesa alla foce del fiume Tago e come porta cerimoniale di Lisbona. La torre fu progettata dagli architetti Francisco de Arruda e da Diogo de Boitaca, che era anche il primo architetto del vicino monastero dei Jerónimos.  Costruita nei primi anni del XVI secolo  ed è un esempio lampante dello stile manuelino portoghese, ma incorpora anche accenni di altri stili architettonici. La struttura è composta da un bastione di 30 metri con quattro torri.  Diverse guide  affermano che in origine la torre sorgeva su di una piccola isola rocciosa vicino alla riva del Tago, di fronte alla spiaggia di Restelo. Poiché il litorale si è progressivamente spostato verso sud nel corso degli anni, la torre è ormai quasi sulla stessa riva del fiume.
