The Arabian or Arab horse (Arabic: حصان عربي‎ [ ħisˁaːn ʕarabiː], DMG ḥiṣān ʿarabī) is a breed of horse that originated on the Arabian Peninsula. With a distinctive head shape and high tail carriage, the Arabian is one of the most easily recognizable horse breeds in the world. It is one of the oldest horse breeds, with archaeological evidence of horses that resemble modern Arabians dating back 4,500 years. Throughout history, Arabian horses spread around the world by both war and trade, used to improve other breeds by adding speed, refinement, endurance, and strong bone. Today, Arabian bloodlines are found in almost every modern breed of riding horse.The Arabian developed in a desert climate and was prized by the nomadic Bedouin people, often being brought inside the family tent for shelter and protection. This close relationship with humans has created a horse breed that is good-natured, quick to learn, and willing to please. But the Arabian also developed the high spirit and alertness needed in a horse used for raiding and war. This combination of willingness and sensitivity requires modern Arabian horse owners to handle their horses with competence and respect.
The Arabian is a versatile breed. Arabians dominate the discipline of endurance riding, and compete today in many other fields of equestrian activity. They are one of the top ten most popular horse breeds in the world. Arabian horses are now found worldwide, including the United States and Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, continental Europe, South America (especially Brazil), and its land of origin, the Middle East.

The horse (Equus ferus caballus)is a hoofed (ungulate) mammal, a subspecies of one of seven extant species of the family Equidae. The horse has evolved over the past 45 to 55 million years from a small multi-toed creature into the large, single-toed animal of today. Humans began to domesticate horses around 4000 BCE, and their domestication is believed to have been widespread by 3000 BCE; by 2000 BCE the use of domesticated horses had spread throughout the Eurasian continent.

Cavallo nobile dal busto fine; pelle sottile ed elastica ricoperta da peli corti e lucenti. Gli zoccoli sono piccoli e durissimi; gli appiombi sono perfetti. L' arabo è il cavallo esteticamente più tipico. È una razza a sangue caldo originaria della Penisola arabica, utilizzato per creare o per migliorare alcune razze, fra cui anche il purosangue inglese. Pionieri tra gli altri dell'inoltro in Europa dei purosangue arabi furono l'italiano Carlo Claudio Camillo Guarmani e l'inglese Lady Anne Blunt, capace e appassionata intenditrice che organizzò il Crabbet Arabian Stud.
Ottimo per trekking e gare di resistenza è spesso utilizzato anche come tiro leggero rapido.
La sua origine risale al 3000 a.C.. Nel VI secolo d.C. i beduini praticavano l'allevamento selettivo, secondo criteri di selezione validi ancora oggi. La storia narra che la sua origine risale, secondo l' emiro Abd - El - Kader, a Dio:

L'Equus caballus (Linneo 1758), o più semplicemente cavallo, è un mammifero ungulato di
grossa taglia. Appartiene al genere Equus, unico della famiglia Equidae. Di antica domesticazione da una sottospecie estinta delle steppe asiatiche, il Tarpan, viene utilizzato come animale da sella, da tiro e da soma. È in grado di rinselvatichirsi e di sopravvivere autonomamente allo stato brado.
Frutto di una lunga e ben conosciuta evoluzione, il cavallo presenta un'elevata specializzazione morfologica e funzionale all'ambiente degli spazi aperti come le praterie, in particolare ha sviluppato una efficace apparato locomotore e un apparato digerente adatto all'alimentazione con erbe dure integrate con modeste quantità di foglie, ramoscelli, cortecce e radici.
