American Golden-Plover - a photo on Flickriver

            The American Golden-Plover, like the Black-bellied Plover in North America, breeds in the High Arctic. Unlike that species, it migrates overland, primarily via the eastern and central flyways and along the west coast of the continent. It is uncommon to find American Golden-Plover in the interior west, so it was a pleasant surprise to observe this solitary individual at Frank Lake near High River in southern Alberta, Canada (especially as late in the season for shorebirds as late September)
