Bald Eagle adult at Sea Lion carcass

The adult Bald Eagle of the previous image was in turn displaced by this adult, which had apparently been feeding earlier as suggested by the dried blood on its head. The original immature is waiting things out in the background, perhaps hoping for another chance to feed once its elders are satiated. This Sea Lion carcass certainly represented a valuable food resource for these raptors, which are not above scavenging. (Although not seen here at the time, Turkey Vulture also occurs in the area as illustrated in this photo of mine www.flickr.com/photos/luminouscompositions/51368041232/in... .) This scene was observed in Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
