Monument to Juan Bravo – Monumento a Juan Bravo, Segovia (Spain), HDR

            Juan Bravo (c. 1483, Atienza–24 April 1521, Villalar de los Comuneros) was a leader of the rebel Comuneros in the Castilian War of the Communities.
His father was Gonzalo Ortega Bravo de Laguna, and his mother was María de Mendoza, daughter of the Count of Monteagudo. In 1504 he married Catalina del Río, they went to live to Segovia, and they had a daughter called María de Mendoza.
In 1510 he married a second time, to María Coronel, grand daughter of Abraham Seneor, a converso. They had two sons, Andrea Bravo de Mendoza and Juan Bravo de Mendoza.

He took part in the Castilian War of the Communities, and he was a leader of the rebel army which was defeated at the Battle of Villalar.
He was captured, and beheaded the day after the battle (Wikipedia).

Juan Bravo (Atienza, Guadalajara, c. 1483 - Villalar de los Comuneros, Valladolid, 24 de abril de 1521) fue un noble español conocido por su participación en la Guerra de las Comunidades de Castilla.

Dirigió una revuelta contra el procurador en Cortes Rodrigo de Tordesillas, que fue ahorcado. Los sublevados se hicieron con la ciudad y Juan Bravo organiza militarmente la ciudad y dirige las operaciones que impiden la entrada en Segovia de las tropas realistas de Rodrigo Ronquillo, enviadas por el cardenal Adriano de Utrecht, regente del rey. Sin embargo, fuerzas realistas se hicieron fuertes en el Alcázar de Segovia y allí permanecieron hasta el final de la revuelta comunera.

Juntó sus fuerzas con las de la Junta de Comuneros de Valladolid, sin poder evitar la derrota ante las tropas reales en la batalla de Villalar el 23 de abril de 1521.
Hecho prisionero, fue decapitado junto a Juan de Padilla y Francisco Maldonado en Villalar el 24 de abril de 1521 (Wikipedia).
