Fisher Family Pier, 222 N Pompano Beach Boulevard, Pompano Beach, Florida, USA / Built: 2020 / Length: 896 ft

The Fisher Family Pier was named after former Mayor Lamar Fisher who is now a Broward County Commissioner and his family. The Fisher family's civic involvement spans for a period of more than 100 years, starting with Lamar Fisher's great-grandfather, Clinton Lyons.

Pompano Fishing Pier has reopened as of June 2020 and it is beautiful. Completely rebuilt, this pier is quite different from other Broward county piers. It is 896 feet long (same length as before), four feet higher than the old one so it can withstand the sea level rise and storm surges. This pier is also roughly 50 percent wider than the old one to help to make it safer for those strolling out along the pier to sightsee thus helping to give a little distance between Fisher people and sightseers. The TEE end of the pier is shaped like a Pompano, the fish that the city was named after.

The Pier Fishing Village area has two restaurants with more to come. Pompano Beachhouse is a great place for a burger or salad and a beer and The Oceanic next door is a bit more upscale. Both are right on the beach.

Fishing this Pier: To start with the underwater structure, it is a rocky bottom making it very good for Snapper fishing. Take a look at the Google satellite images to familiarize yourself with the difference between the sandy areas and rocky bottom areas.

Mutton Snapper is found off the end of the Pier.
Mackerel and Bluefish are more to the middle on out. The float rig for Mackerel is popular at this pier.

Snook lay up and under the length of this pier at night. A technique is known as 'walking the dog' is used. Use a Live Shrimp on a 1/0 circle hook attached to a 40in a leader, with a small swivel and a barrel egg sinker on the mainline. It is just enough weight to hold a steady level as you walk slowly up and down the pier. Start from the bottom up, go up and down the pier working different depths, as they feed at different depths at different times. With a little patience and perseverance, you'll be successful.

The pier is open from 7 am - 10 pm, Sunday - Saturday.
