An Steall Bàn, Glen Nevis, near Fort William, Lochaber, Highland, Scotland, UK

            At the head of the main Glen Nevis, a path passes through a wooded gorge then reopens into a wide, glacial upper valley, Steall Meadows, which certainly adds to the impact of seeing this waterfall for the first time. 

It's difficult to convey the scale of this view, but the Allt Coire a' Mhàil drops 120 m from a hanging valley (the eponymous Coire a’ Mhàil is at its head ~3 km away; the immediate top of the waterfall is Coire Dubh an Steill) before joining the Water of Nevis; this is the second highest waterfall in Scotland and hence the entire UK.  Its tiers flow over white quartzite; I'm not sure whether that rock type or the water itself inspired the name, 'The White Spout' in Gaelic.

The ridge on the left rises to An Gearanach (982 m), well out of view.

One would need to cross the Water for a closer look at the waterfall, either by wading or braving the infamous three-wire (technically four - the 'deck' is two wires) bridge, but I rather liked the longer views from here, and didn't want to risk a long return walk with wet feet.

On that point: the ~1½ km Steal Falls path begins at the very end of Glen Nevis Road, and a car park, but I think I'd recommend parking a bit further down the valley, perhaps at Achriabhach, to see Polldubh Falls and the river upstream of there.  It's possible to walk all the way from Fort William – we did – but that was a rather boring slog, a 25 km round trip; don't do that.

Apparently this location appears in multiple 'Harry Potter' films. That's hardly surprising, apart from the feat of a film crew reaching the valley.
