Eataly - my piatto vegetale - a photo on Flickriver

This is riso venere nero with fresh vegetables, served on a bed of songino with a side salad of apples, radicchio and walnuts. It was SO good!

Taken from the FormaggioKitchen website - Venere Nero which means black venus in Italian and is a cross between the ancient Chinese forbidden rice that was traditionally reserved for the emperor and an Italian variety. This is a wholegrain or integrale rice with a very dark red (almost black) husk that is known for its amazing color and aroma of baked bread. Italians designated the nutrient-rich rice “the nobleman’s rice.”

Last Thursday, Kathya and I went to Eataly in Torino for lunch - for more info on Eataly, Mark wrote a good summary.

Wow, what an experience! I've been to Eataly a couple of times before, when I worked in Torino, but coming here with Kathya, who is so so passionate about food, well, her excitement was contagious! We lost our heads in that place. All that good food under one roof!

We sauntered around the market, then went for our first course lunch (vegetarian), then shopped some more, before going for our second course lunch (fish), back to shopping, then finally a coffee at the bar :)

We bought some food from Eataly for our little train picnic and went off to catch our train to Massa... The journey and stories continue... :)
