Hamburg "Tor zur Welt" - a photo on Flickriver

            Hamburg is a major port city in northern Germany, connected to the North Sea via the Elbe. The city is criss-crossed by hundreds of canals, some called canals, and also has extensive parkland and green spaces. There are boats on the Binnenalster near the center and there are numerous cafés around the reservoir. The Jungfernstieg connects the new town with the old town, which is home to landmarks such as the main church of St. Michaelis from the 18th century.

Hamburg ist eine bedeutende norddeutsche Hafenstadt, die über die Elbe mit der Nordsee verbunden ist. Die Stadt wird von Hunderten von Kanälen durchzogen, die zum Teil als Fleete bezeichnet werden, und weist außerdem ausgedehnte Park- und Grünflächen auf. Auf der zentrumsnahen Binnenalster fahren Boote, rings um den Stausee liegen zahlreiche Cafés. Der Jungfernstieg verbindet die Neustadt mit der Altstadt, in der Wahrzeichen wie die Hauptkirche Sankt Michaelis aus dem 18. Jh. liegen.
