Little Flooded Quarry - a photo on Flickriver

            I was supposed to be out shooting landscapes this evening near to my home as today I saw the sun come out for the first time in a week. However I was unable to find any pictures to take that pleased me with a real lack of colour in the landscape around Wilsby/Kelby today. 

I worked past these small flooded earthworks at the start of my trip and was allured by the characterful tree that was growing upon the western band of one of them. As there was lots of high cloud in the sky I thought it would be worth sticking around to watch the sun finally set, hopeful that I could capture some of the colours in the sky and reflected upon the tiny pools of water.

This was the first image I captured just as the sun was about to set across the other side of the pool, the tree provided a nice silhouette, and stopping down the lens produced the nice starburst effect. I used a 0.6ND GRAD to balance out the sky. In post processing I had to balance out the exposure of the reflection to keep it a little dimmer than the sky, I also had to remove a telegraph pole via cloning on the left hand side of the image.

After the sun had set the colours of the cloud became vivid fiery reds, oranges and yellows… I couple a few further images and will post one of these once I edit it tomorrow.
