White-throated Treerunner - Pygarrhichas albogularis - Comesebo grande

            For me, a big part of the fun of international birding is studying all the possible sightings in the months (and sometimes years) leading up to the trip. Chile is blessed for such purposes with an excellent book - Birds of Chile by Alvaro Jaramillo, illustrations by Peter Burke and David Beadle.

One of the birds I thought looked really neat is the one above, White-throated Treerunner. On the page it seemed a bit like a cross between a White-breasted Nuthatch and a Brown Creeper. In the field it was that way too. 

Shout out to the folks who came up with the great English names for a lot of South American birds - Treerunners, Earthcreepers, Foliage-gleaners, Leaf-tossers, Reedhaunters, Streamcreepers, etc.
