créé en 1709 - fermé en 1958 - réouvert en 1970 au tourisme    le + grand nombre de moines en dehors du Tibet
4000 en 1957 -  actuellement 400
le nombre de moines pouvant rester à Labrang étant limité, ils vont rejoindre d'autres monastères comme en Thaïlande
