Paddle boat house - a photo on Flickriver

Paddle boat house

            Echuca is on the Murray river at it's closest approach to Melbourne, roughly 215km south.  The proximity between the river and the port made this town the nexus of inland trade and transport when the first rail link was completed.  Paddlesteamers would bring their cargoes of wool, amongst other things, from as far as the Queensland border, connecting at Echuca with train transport to Melbourne and then ship to London.  Numerous examples of the old ships are still in service, like this one that looks like it's now someone's home.  I don't know if it still runs on steam power.
