Arboreal Giants

            Congaree National Park in South Carolina is significantly smaller than most of our national parks but still packs a lot of great activities. It's 20k acres of the largest tract of bottomland hardwoods left in the country with loblolly pines 17 stories high. The flooding of the Congaree and Wateree Rivers supplies rich nutrient soil that enhances the growth of these wonderous trees. Best time to visit is in the winter when there are no mosquitos and the temps are much cooler.
