4141_0605_Leicester - a photo on Flickriver

            Great Western Railway “Large Prairie” 2-6-2T 4141 is about to run round its train at Leicester North, 20th May 2006. 

Locomotive History
Although built at Swindon works in 1946 the design is a modified version of the 3100 class introduced in 1903. In all two hundred and ninety engines to this basic design were constructed although there were detailed differences within various batches. 4141 would spend almost all its career allocated to Gloucester MPD from where it was withdrawn in March 1963. Following withdrawal it was sent for disposal to Woodham Bros. of Barry from there it was bought for preservation. It became the twenty eighth locomotive to leave for preservation when it moved to the Severn Valley Railway in January 1973 and was eventually restored in 1998.
